In 2016, Dr Linda Kumirayi became the first female general surgeon to complete her training at the University of Zimbabwe. She began focusing her surgical talents on the management of breast conditions in 2019 when she spent time in the breast unit at Helen Joseph. She then went on to work in the Northwest province, establishing a busy breast unit at Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp from 2020 to 2022. Dr Kumirayi was also connected to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Breast Unit honing her skills in oncoplastic reconstruction of the breast including breast reductions and mastopexies. From April 2023 to July 2024, she subsequently returned to Helen Joseph Hospital in the role of chief of unit. Dr Kumirayi understands the anxiety resulting from breast pathology and it has been her passion to help patients get the best holistic care.
